It’s amazing
to me how quickly time is going. We are
starting to get closer to the end but still have so much to accomplish!
Science: We are just starting a new unit on light and
sound. We will start looking at how
light travels and different properties of light.
Math: We just finished the end of unit 8 and are moving into unit 9. Expect to see more multiplication practice
and the start of multiplying double digits.
Thank you for all of your additional help at home with math fact
practice. I am so impressed with how
many of the children are really taking off with their timed tests!
Language
Arts: We
have just started new literature studies. I allowed the children to pick their own
groups according to similar interests.
We found some of our shared book sets in our room, but got a chance to
explore and use the upper elementary shared book room down the hall.
The children did a wonderful job on their biographies. Our next mission is to start researching for
our animal reports. I look forward to
sharing these with you as they are all done on the computer.
Social
Studies: Our focus all year is Michigan
and we take this time to study the government and how it works. We learned the 3 branches of government and
talked about how laws are passed. We also
had an interesting discussion about what it would be like if we didn’t have any
laws or rules.
This
will all tie in nicely when we get to see the law makers at the capital May 9th. If you purchased a t-shirt, I will be sending
them home with the kids today. Also, if
you haven’t paid for the field trip and are planning to write a check, please
make it out to Alice Matlosz. I will be
paying for everyone at the door.J
