I hope that everyone had a wonderful President’s Day, and I hope you’re all looking forward to mid-winter break this week Friday! It’s amazing how quickly this month is flying bye! A million thanks to everyone that helped plan, organize, donate, and participate in our Valentine’s party. It was absolutely spectacular! A huge thanks to Chris Ann Lilly for planning our chocolate covered party!!!!
Language Arts: We finished reading all of the Michigan Legends and are now reading “Ralph S. Mouse”. We are also doing some fun and exciting things with writing. We have talked about different kinds of leads, and how to zoom in and add detail to our writing by using all of our senses. I am so proud of how much the children are growing as writers!
Math: We are almost done with unit 6. We will be learning more about multiplication, division, working with parentheses, estimating costs, and extended facts.
Spelling: I have been hearing great things from many of you about the new spelling. I am glad that the kids are picking it up quickly and doing such a great job. This week group 1 is focusing on words with –ew, -ou, and –oo. Group 2 is working on words with VV(vowel, vowel), VCCV (vowel, consonant, consonant, vowel) doubled, and VCCV-not doubled. Every Monday night is either write and draw or sort, alphabetize and draw. If your child isn’t sure what a word means, send them in to me to discuss it again.
Science: We are just starting a unit called Earth and me. It’s so fun to look at different rocks and minerals and learn about the Earth’s surface.
