Welcome Back!

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and well deserved Spring Break. It’s amazing to me how quickly time is going. We are starting to get closer to the end but still have so much to accomplish!

Science: We are just starting a new unit on light and sound. We will start looking at how light travels and different properties of light. Also next week Thursday and Friday we will be having an Earth Day Extravaganza! We have many different activities that the children will love!

Math: We just finished the end of unit 8 and will be moving into unit 9 next week. Expect to see more multiplication practice and the start of multiplying double digits.

Language Arts: We have just started new literature studies. I allowed the children to pick their own groups according to similar interests. We found some of our shared book sets in our room, but got a chance to explore and use the upper elementary shared book room down the hall.

The children did a wonderful job on their biographies. Our next mission is to write and publish our auto biographies.

Social Studies: Our focus all year is Michigan and we take this time to study the government and how it works. We learned the 3 branches of government and talked about how laws are passed. We also had an interesting discussion about what it would be like if we didn’t have any laws or rules.

*We have two field trips coming up in May. I will be sending home notes next week about both. The first one is Wednesday May 2nd to Lansing. The second one is Wednesday May 16th and we will be going to enhance our science program by visiting the Van Andel Museum downtown Grand Rapids. Wow, so much to look forward to!
