This Week

Our week is a busy and fun one!  A huge thank you to everyone who signed up to send in things for our needy families this holiday season.  If you didn't get a chance to, there are still a few slots available.  If you could send all items by this Wednesday that would be wonderful.  I will be delivering the items after school.

Also if you would like to donate to our Christmas party this Thursday, you can still sign up.  Items that need to be sent early should be sent by Wednesday to prepare for Thursday.

Friday we will enjoy watching the Polar Express, wearing pajamas, and ending our day with caroling.  No spelling this week, enjoy!

Again thank you so much for your generosity.  You are all amazing!!!

News

It's hard to believe that it is already November!  I am beyond blessed to have the opportunity to work with your children and can't express how much I appreciate your support and kindness!  I hope you all enjoy the rest of the week off and have the chance for some rest and relaxation.

I have some fabulous moms planning our Christmas party, which will be Thursday, December 17th.  Please take a moment to click the link below to take a very short survey to help them plan.  Thank you!

More things to come in December:

*The following is from our music teacher.

2nd and 3rd grade families,
I hope you are getting excited for the Christmas program on December 4, we sure are!  Our music program is in need of 100 flashlights for our Christmas concert finale!  If you are willing to donate a flashlight or batteries for this concert it would be greatly appreciated!  I have 30 that I purchased at the Dollar Store, the flashlights that require three triple A batteries are the best and the batteries that the Dollar store carries work just great!  After we use these for the concert we have many uses for them in our music class as well and will benefit from them for the rest of this school year and beyond!
Thank you for your support, and we hope to amaze you with our finale at the Christmas concert!
Musically yours,
Jamie Saincome

Also we will once again have Secret Santa shopping.  Our class is signed up to go Wednesday, December 9th after lunch.  If you would like to have your child shop send money that day and a list of who to shop for always works best.

As always, please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

1.  Be able to  draw a picture of something MOVING.  Be able to label the FORCE that made it move (push or pull)

2.  Tell ways that a PUSH or PULL can CHANGE the way an object moves:

-it can start an object moving

-it can stop an object from moving

-it can slow down a moving object

-it can speed up a moving object

-it can change the direction of a moving object

3.  How would you change the motion of a rolling ball to increase its speed?

-push it with more force to make it go faster.

4.  What 3 things do we use to describe motion?

    -speed, direction, and distance

5.  An object at rest is __________________. (not moving at all)

It will remain at rest until ______________. (a force (push or pull) acts on it.)

6.  What force makes objects fall to Earth?      (Gravity)

7.  If a book is at rest on a table, what forces are acting on it?

-GRAVITY is trying to pull it down

-The table is pushing up on the book

-Because these are EQUAL forces the book will not move.

8.  What would be a way to get a book moving that is at rest on a table?

    -push it off

-pull it off with your hands

-remove the table, then the force of gravity will pull it down

10.  What are 2 forces that start an object in motion?     (Push and pull)

This Week

We have a half day this Friday, October 23rd-dismissal time is noon.  We also have earned a reward by filling our bucket with beads so the children voted on Pajamas and a movie Friday.  We are just finishing the book Because of Winn-Dixie so the children would like to watch the movie so we can compare it to the book.  Feel free to let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.  Have a fabulous week!!!

This Week...

What a wonderful group of boys and girls.  I feel so fortunate that I get to spend my day with such great kids:)  A few things...

1.Picture Day is this Wednesday.  If you didn't get a form, let me know.

2.  Allergy information.  Just a reminder that we do have a severe nut allergy in our room.  This also includes sunflower seeds.  Thank you in advance for your attention to keeping our kids safe.

3.  Agendas and homework.  Today we started homework.  I sent home a homework folder with their All About Me Page and this year we have the entire book of Homelinks for each child.  I am sending it home for you to keep.  All homework is due on Friday, so please just do the Homelinks for this week, tear out, and turn in when finished.  If you are wondering what the homework is this week you can look in your child's agenda or look on the side bar on this blog.

4.  Weekly reports go home on Fridays.  They are just a little snapshot into your child's week.  Please just take a moment to look it over, sign your name, and return.

Thank you all for an awesome start to the year.  I appreciate all of your positive support!  Have a wonderful week!!!
